How closely are you following your org chart?
You may have noticed by now that I’m a little obsessive when it comes to documentation and procedure. But I’m like that for a good reason: having things written down and clearly defined is essential to operate a successful business.
A perfect example of this is your org chart. That’s an area where you can royally mess everything up if you’re not clear in your definitions.
Here are a few quick tips: you should have roles in those boxes, not names. You shouldn’t have more than three levels (unless you’re an executive of a multi-million-dollar corporation, in which case, hi!) And most importantly, you should never make the one mistake that trips up almost all the business owners I talk to.
