“If you can’t say the downsides of a goal, you don’t have a goal.”
If you want to achieve anything meaningful, in life or in business, you need to have a goal based in reality and not on fantasy. The goal needs to be articulated, investigated, and broken down into incremental steps that you can make progress towards in chunks.
That sounds complicated, but it’s actually a lot easier than you think.
When you set goals that are truly aligned with yourself and your values, much of that will come automatically. You’ll see a vision of the future where that goal is realized and what steps need to be taken to get there. You’ll see the benefits of completing that goal…but also all the obstacles that will get in your way. And you’ll be inspired to take action.
And yes, you’ll be aware of the challenges that face you BECAUSE you accomplished your goal.
Those are signs that the goal is real. Because reality has, baked into it, positive and negative aspects. No experience comes without both.
Next time you plan anything, take a moment to examine your goals. Chasing down goals based on fantasy will only lead you into a nightmare.
